Michael McCain
President and Chief Executive Officer, Maple Leaf Foods Inc.

Michael McCain is President and Chief Executive Officer of Maple Leaf Foods. He and his team have led the transformation of Maple Leaf Foods into Canada’s leading food processor and exporter, with approximately 22,500 employees, sales of $5.2 billion in 2009 and flagship brands including Maple Leaf, Schneiders and Dempster’s. Mr. McCain joined Maple Leaf Foods as President and Chief Operating Officer in April 1995 and was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in January 1999.

 
Prior to joining Maple Leaf Foods, Mr. McCain spent 16 years with McCain Foods Limited in Canada and the United States and was, at the time of leaving in March 1995, President and Chief Executive Officer of McCain Foods USA Inc. He began his career with McCain Foods after graduating from university and held progressive positions in sales, sales management, marketing management and information systems management. In 1986, he assumed the role of President of McCain Citrus Inc., and was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of McCain Foods USA Inc. in 1990.

Mr. McCain is a director of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., McCain Capital Corporation and McCain Foods Group Inc., and Chairman of Canada Bread Company, Limited. He is a member of the board of the Royal Bank of Canada, the American Meat Institute, the Richard Ivey School of Business Advisory Board, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation (CAMH), MaRS Discovery District, and a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. Mr. McCain is also Co-Chairing the current CAMH Transforming Lives Capital Campaign. He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of The Hospital for Sick Children and a past director of the American Frozen Food Institute and Bombardier Inc.

Born in Florenceville, New Brunswick, Michael McCain was educated at Mount Allison University and received an Honours Business Administration degree from the University of Western Ontario. He and his wife Chris reside in Toronto, Ontario with their five children.
Michael Vels
Chief Financial Officer, Maple Leaf Foods Inc.; Canada Bread Company, Limited

Michael Vels is Chief Financial Officer of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. He is also Chief Financial Officer of Canada Bread Company, Limited which is 89.8% owned by Maple Leaf Foods Inc.

 
Mr. Vels joined the company in 1991 during which time, he has held senior finance positions of increasing responsibility including: Financial Controller (1991); Vice-President and Corporate Controller (1992 to1993); Vice-President, Finance (1993 to 1995); Senior Vice-President, Finance (1995 to 1998); and Executive Vice-President, Finance (1999 to 2004). He was appointed to his current responsibilities in March 2004.

During his tenure, the Finance Group at Maple Leaf Foods has supported the rebuilding of the business and the industry, while at the same time bringing an extremely high level of business support tools and value-add to the Company, including installation of standard finance systems and leading edge insight tools. This has included a significant level of financial activity including numerous acquisitions and divestitures and the completion of several large and complex financing transactions.

Mr. Vels received his Chartered Accountant designation in South Africa in 1985, while articling with a major accounting firm. He then worked for several years in the United Kingdom, specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Shortly after transferring to Canada, Mr. Vels joined the company at the time of the merger between Maple Leaf Mills and Canada Packers in 1991.
Gary Maksymetz
President, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods

Gary Maksymetz is President of Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, an independent business unit of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.

 
Mr. Maksymetz has more than three decades experience in the food industry and was appointed to his current position in 2010. The Maple Leaf Consumer Foods organization is the market leader in value-added meats and meals supported by flagship consumer brands - Maple Leaf and Schneiders - and a family of strong sub-brands, including Prime Naturally and Simply Savour.

Following graduation, Gary began his career in the food industry as a Product Manager with Canada Packers in Edmonton in 1979 and over more than two decades, gained valuable experience in sales, marketing, supply chain and general management. He held positions of progressive responsibility with Canada Packers, Swift/Gainers, Burns Foods and in 1996, returned to familiar territory at Maple Leaf Foods upon the company's acquisition of Burns Foods. In 1997, he was appointed Vice President, General Manager with responsibility for managing the Consumer Foods' U.S. operations, and assumed the role of Senior Vice President of Retail Sales for Canada and the U.S.A. in 2000. Mr. Maksymetz was appointed as Executive Vice President in 2002 a role which was expanded following the merger with Schneider Foods in 2004 and included responsibility for all retail sales, foodservice, marketing and U.S.A. for the combined business operations. He assumed responsibility as Executive Vice President for the organization's Fresh Pork operations in 2006 prior to being appointed as Executive Vice President, Fresh Meats (Pork and Poultry) in 2008, a position he held until assuming his current role as President, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods.

He holds a B.Sc. in Food Science from the University of Manitoba.
Richard Young
Executive Vice President, Transformation of Maple Leaf Consumer Foods

Rick Young is Executive Vice President, Transformation of Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, an independent business unit of Maple Leaf Foods.

 
Mr. Young's career with Maple Leaf Foods spans over three decades. He was appointed to his current position in February 2010. In this new role, Mr. Young will lead major transformation initiatives at Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, including plant network optimization, SAP implementation and complexity reduction of processes and products, all of which are critical to achieving the business' financial goals and building strong competitive advantage.

He began his career at Maple Leaf Foods 31 years ago as an Assistant Product Manager with Canada Packers, working in a variety of progressively senior positions including production, marketing and business development. In 1990, Rick was appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing for Maple Leaf Prepared Meats, a position he held until January 1993 when he assumed the role of General Manager, Shopsy's Foods. Later that year, he returned to Maple Leaf Prepared Meats as Director of Sales & Marketing prior to being promoted to Vice President, Sales & Marketing in 1995 and then Vice President, Business Development for Maple Leaf Meats in 1996. Mr. Young was appointed Vice President, Supply Chain for Maple Leaf Consumer Foods in 1997 prior to becoming President of Shur-Gain in March 2000, a position he held until assuming the role of President, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods in August 2000. This role was later expanded following the merger with Schneider Foods in 2004 and again with the integration of Maple Leaf Fresh Foods into the Consumer Foods organization in October 2006. Under his direction, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods established a leadership position in the Canadian market bringing innovation to life with new products, new markets and new opportunities. He held the role of President, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods until assuming his current role of Executive Vice President, Transformation.

Mr. Young graduated from Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology with a Marketing Degree in 1978. He has also obtained certification in Crosby's Quality Management System and completed the Executive Program (Supply Chain) at Stanford University in 1998.
Barry McLean
President, Canada Bread Fresh Bakery

Barry McLean is President of Canada Bread Fresh Bakery, an independent operating company of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.

 
He joined Maple Leaf Foods in 2000 as Senior Vice President and General Manager and assumed his current responsibilities as President, Fresh Bakery in April 2002. The Fresh Bakery Group is Canada’s leading bakery, producing white and multi-grain breads, rolls, bagels, sandwiches and sweet goods with a national operation and distribution network.

Under his leadership, the Fresh Bakery operations continue to grow market share in its major brands including Dempster’s, Olafson’s, POM and Ben’s through innovative new products such as Dempster’s and Dempster’s Wholegrains breads. Dempster’s is the leading brand of fresh bread in Canada.

Mr. McLean’s career includes positions with J.M. Schneider, Campbell’s Soup and Kraft, where he was appointed President, Grocery Division in 1997.

In 1982, he graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science, from the University of Guelph and received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Toronto in 1986.
Richard A. Lan
Chief Operating Officer, Food Group, Maple Leaf Foods Inc. and President and Chief Executive Officer, Canada Bread Company, Limited

Richard Lan is the Chief Operating Officer of the Food Group, Maple Leaf Foods and President and Chief Executive Officer, Canada Bread Company.

 
Appointed to his current role in 2006, Mr. Lan joined Maple Leaf Foods in 1995. From 1995 to 1997, he served as Executive Vice President for Maple Leaf Foods and President of Maple Leaf Foods USA. In 1998, he was appointed President/Chief Operating Officer for Maple Leaf Foods Bakery Division, Chairman of Canada Bread, and also served as President of Maple Leaf Bakery USA. He served in this position until 2002 when he assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Canada Bread, in addition to his role as Chief Operating Officer for Maple Leaf Foods’ Bakery Products Group.

Mr. Lan assumed the position of Chief Operating Officer for Maple Leaf’s meat and bakery operations in October 2006. In this role he will lead the organizational alignment to establish integrated value-added protein and bakery companies and harvest additional synergies between the meat and bakery businesses.

Under his leadership, Mr. Lan and his team in the Bakery Products Group have established the business as a leader in all core categories: Canadian fresh bread; North American par-baked market; U.K. bagel and specialty manufacturer; and Canadian fresh pasta. In 2002 Canada Bread completed its acquisition of Maple Leaf Bakery and Maple Leaf Bakery U.K., creating an integrated global bakery operation, and a platform for greater efficiencies and market expansion in both the fresh and frozen par-baked businesses.

He attended the University of Rhode Island where he attained his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Following his academic career, he became the president of Dell Products Corp., a frozen juice concentrate manufacturer in New Jersey and served that function from 1976 through 1987. He sold that business to the McCain family in 1988 and assumed the role of Vice President Sales for McCain Citrus in the United States. He was promoted to the position of President/CEO of McCain Citrus in 1990, where he remained until he joined Maple Leaf Foods.

Mr. Lan is a director of Canada Bread Company, Limited. He is also a director of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation. He is a past member of the Young Presidents Organization in both the Chicago and New Jersey chapters.
Stephen Graham
Chief Marketing Officer, Maple Leaf Foods Inc.

Stephen Graham is Chief Marketing Officer at Maple Leaf Foods Inc.

 
Appointed to this newly created role in 2009, Mr. Graham is responsible for providing executive leadership to all marketing and product development initiatives across Maple Leaf Foods businesses. Other areas of responsibility include Marketing Resources which includes Marketing Services, Media Services, Consumer Affairs, Mapleleaf.com and the ThinkFOOD! Centre.

Mr. Graham has over 25 years of senior leadership experience in marketing and has consistently generated exceptional results in tier one companies. Mr. Graham began his career at Procter & Gamble and has since overseen marketing for some of the world’s and Canada’s leading companies and brands including, Coca-Cola, AT&T, CIBC and Rogers Communications. While leading marketing for AT&T in the U.S. he was ranked #1 by Advertising Age in their Power 50 selection of top global marketers.

Mr. Graham graduated from Queen’s University with Bachelor of Commerce Honours.
