Bill 132, Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan Act (Supporting Survivors and Challenging Sexual Violence and Harassment), 2016 recently became law in Ontario. The Act reflects the government’s commitment to prevent and address sexualized violence and amends six statutes, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The new requirements revise the definition of “workplace harassment”, impose new requirements for workplace harassment prevention programs and establish new requirements for conducting internal investigations. The Ontario Ministry of Labour has also prepared a recent Code of Practice that will be highly informative for employers needing to comply with these new requirements.
